Fabio Quartararo did not hold back after the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, branding his fellow MotoGP competitors "stupid" for overlooking what ultimately proved to be the weekend's standout tyre choice. The Yamaha star expressed his frustration over how the entire grid initially wrote off the hard-compound rear rubber.
The tyre drama escalated when Michelin was forced to withdraw the soft-compound rear ahead of Sunday's main race. Several riders suffered alarming chunking and blistering issues during Saturday's Sprint due to extreme overheating, leaving the grid with a sudden scramble between the medium and hard compounds.
Despite initial skepticism from the paddock, the hard compound turned out to be a masterstroke. Quartararo admitted the grid missed a trick, noting that the alternative casing provided much better stability and drastically reduced the bike's pumping behavior through corners.

However, sorting out the rubber puzzle could not save the 2021 world champion from familiar gremlins. Severe fuel consumption issues reared their ugly head much earlier than anticipated, forcing the Frenchman into extreme conservation mode from just the seventh lap of the race.
"From lap seven I had a fuel issue," Quartararo explained regarding the frustrating limitation that prevented him from pushing to his maximum. He was forced to roll off the throttle to just 70 percent on the straights, though he still managed to salvage a positive perspective on his individual riding performance.
