Fabio Quartararo has delivered a scathing assessment of his fellow competitors, branding MotoGP riders as foolish for completely ignoring what ultimately proved to be the standout tyre option at Motegi. Throughout the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, nearly the entire grid heavily leaned toward the soft-compound rear tyre during Saturday's Sprint, but that specific option was withdrawn from the allocation ahead of Sunday's grand prix due to overheating concerns that caused blistering and center-tread chunking.

The withdrawal forced teams to pivot between the medium and hard rear compounds, with the latter having been entirely dismissed by the riders leading up to the weekend and even into Saturday evening. Michelin officials further complicated the strategy by warning that utilizing the medium compound would carry significant risks following data gathered from the Sprint race, prompting the entire field to evaluate the hard option during Warm Up before unanimously running it in the grand prix.

Reflecting on the frantic tyre shuffle, the leading Yamaha Factory Racing star expressed total bewilderment as to why the rest of the grid failed to give the hard rubber proper consideration. He pointed out that the hard casing not only provided better longevity but also significantly mitigated the aggressive bike-pumping phenomenon exiting slow corners, allowing for a more effective deployment of engine power compared to the soft option.

Elaborating on the unusual situation after the race, the Frenchman candidly admitted that dismissing the tyre option initially was an oversight by the riders, noting that the hard compound would have even delivered better performance during time attacks by keeping the machine much more settled through tricky acceleration zones.

Beyond the tyre strategic drama, the recurring fuel consumption issues that previously hampered his weekend at Misano resurfaced in Japan. Motegi's notorious heavy fuel-burning layout presented an immense hurdle for the Monster Energy Yamaha squad, forcing the former world champion to drastically manage his throttle inputs from the very early stages of the race to ensure he finished the distance.

Despite being forced to compromise his lap times by significantly lifting off the throttle along the straights while battling within the slipstreams, the rider remained satisfied with his personal execution on track. Although the unexpected fuel limitation arose much earlier than anticipated when trailing competitors like Brad Binder, he chose to focus on the positive aspects of his riding performance throughout the Japanese GP weekend.
