Fabio di Giannantonio revealed the terrifying moments behind a sudden loss of pace midway through the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika. The VR46 rider had enjoyed an exceptionally strong weekend, securing a front-row start as the leading Ducati before converting that speed into a podium finish during the Saturday Sprint race.
After dropping down to sixth place during the opening stages of Sunday's 27-lap main race, the Italian rider found his rhythm and established himself as one of the fastest competitors on track by lap 12, preparing to launch a charge toward the front runners.
The momentum came to an abrupt halt approaching Turn 10, where a massive front-end lockup triggered severe vibrations throughout the motorcycle chassis. Post-race inspections ultimately revealed a puncturing hole directly on the front tyre compound.

"The front tyre started to destroy itself and we got massive vibrations, we were super lucky to not crash and finish the race," di Giannantonio stated, adding that there had been zero prior warning before the catastrophic failure occurred while he was attempting to lower his lap times.
Despite slipping back to eighth position at the chequered flag and maintaining sixth place in the championship standings ahead of Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez, the Italian emphasized the numerous positives gathered from his overall weekend pace.
