Formula 1's future in Saudi Arabia looks increasingly exciting as construction at the under-construction megaproject city in Qiddiya continues, and fans have now been treated to a first glimpse of perhaps its biggest selling point: a corner dubbed "The Blade".
The city, which began construction in 2019, is largely focused on sports and entertainment. Despite work still ongoing, the area has already hosted FIA-backed motorsport, with the first Extreme H World Cup held there in October 2025. Set in the Riyadh Province, Qiddiya has long harboured ambitions to host a Grand Prix, as well as other top-level series like WEC and MotoGP. Motorsport Week understands that Formula E will, like F1, eventually vacate its current shared Saudi home at Jeddah Corniche to race in Qiddiya.
The circuit, expected to be completed in 2028, is currently known as the Qiddiya Speed Park Track and has been designed by famed F1 circuit architect Hermann Tilke and former F1 driver Alexander Wurz. While finer details remain unknown, it is slated to have 21 corners and, at an apparent length of 4.3 miles, will become the longest circuit on the calendar.
Its most unique corner will be Turn 1, "The Blade", which is reached at a steep incline peaking at 230 feet, with a concert venue positioned underneath. Over the past week, images and footage have emerged showing the construction of The Blade, including a clip posted on social media from the seat of an aeroplane passenger flying over the circuit.
The sight of The Blade taking shape has sparked excitement among fans. It's not just another corner; with its extreme elevation and unique design, it promises to be one of the most iconic turns in F1 history. The concert venue beneath adds a novel element never seen before at any circuit.
While the move to Qiddiya still depends on infrastructure readiness, the visible progress suggests it's only a matter of time. For fans, this is a promise of a truly fresh racing experience.
