The opening session of F1 2026 Bahrain Pre-Season Test 1 up to 13:00 local time placed Max Verstappen at the top of the timesheets with a 1m35.433s for Oracle Red Bull Racing. The reigning world champion held a slim 0.169s advantage over Oscar Piastri of McLaren, who posted a 1m35.602s during the early phase of performance simulation runs.
In third position, George Russell guided Mercedes to a 1m36.108s, followed by Lewis Hamilton who recorded a 1m36.433s for Ferrari. The relatively tight gaps among the top four suggest differing run plans, with an early focus on aerodynamic data correlation and management of the new-generation 2026 tyres.
Esteban Ocon placed Haas F1 Team fifth with a 1m37.169s, while Hamilton’s team-mate Charles Leclerc was sixth on 1m37.819s. Rookie Arvid Lindblad secured seventh for Racing Bulls, ahead of Carlos Sainz representing Williams.
In the midfield group, Gabriel Bortoleto registered a 1m38.871s for Audi F1 Team, followed by Valtteri Bottas for Cadillac F1 Team. Meanwhile, Alex Albon and Lance Stroll completed the top 12 for Williams and Aston Martin respectively.
Two drivers had yet to set a time as of 13:00 local time, namely Lando Norris (McLaren) and Sergio Perez (Cadillac), as both remained in the installation lap phase and initial systems evaluation. The afternoon session is expected to feature longer runs and more aggressive set-up exploration ahead of the second day of testing.
