Carmelo Ezpeleta says he remains confident MotoGP will eventually reach a new commercial agreement with all manufacturers for the 2027-2031 period despite ongoing negotiations. The MotoGP SEG CEO described the current situation as positive even though discussions with the five factories remain unresolved.

The latest negotiations have become considerably more complex than previous renewal cycles following the acquisition of MotoGP commercial rights by [Liberty Media](https://www.libertymedia.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com). Manufacturers are understood to be delaying final approval while evaluating the future commercial structure and long-term business direction of MotoGP under the upcoming 850cc regulations.

One of the clearest consequences of the current stand-off is the absence of official rider announcements for the 2027 season, despite widespread belief that several major agreements were completed long ago. At the same time, next-generation 850cc prototypes are already undergoing private testing by manufacturers including Ducati, Yamaha, KTM, and Honda.

“We will reach an agreement, I'm sure of it,” Ezpeleta told Motorsport.com during an event launching the Catalunya MotoGP round.

Ezpeleta stressed there is currently no formal deadline for finalising negotiations because manufacturers have already prepared their bikes and rider structures for the new era. According to the Spanish executive, the situation concerns commercial fine-tuning rather than any serious threat to the championship’s future.

“There are no deadlines. The world championship starts next March, all the manufacturers have already built their bikes and signed their riders,” Ezpeleta explained.

From a technical and sporting perspective, the 850cc era is expected to become one of the most significant regulation shifts in modern MotoGP history. Reduced engine capacity will alter acceleration characteristics, aerodynamic strategies, and electronic management systems while forcing manufacturers into major new chassis and power-delivery development programmes.

Beyond the manufacturer negotiations, Ezpeleta also addressed the future structure of the MotoGP calendar, particularly concerning the championship’s four Spanish rounds. MotoGP currently maintains events at Jerez, Barcelona, Aragon, and Valencia, but the maximum 22-race limit increasingly complicates keeping all four permanently on the schedule.

“We can't hold more than 22 races due to agreements with teams, so having four in Spain will be very difficult,” Ezpeleta admitted.

Several Spanish circuits are understood to already include event rotation clauses within their agreements should calendar restructuring become necessary in the future. With Liberty Media preparing for further global MotoGP expansion, pressure on the traditional European-heavy calendar is expected to increase over the coming seasons.

The outcome of the 2027 contract negotiations is now viewed as one of the most important factors shaping MotoGP’s commercial and competitive future. The final agreement between organisers and manufacturers is expected to influence not only the rider market, but also long-term technical investment strategies across the entire factory grid.
