Weather conditions are expected to become one of the biggest factors during the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours this weekend. The legendary endurance race at the Nordschleife is forecast to take place under extreme conditions featuring heavy rain, freezing temperatures, and possible thunderstorms that could heavily influence the event.

Max Verstappen, who is making his Nürburgring 24 Hours debut this year, is expected to face an additional challenge from rapidly changing weather conditions throughout qualifying sessions and the main race.

Qualifying sessions on Thursday and Friday are forecast to take place in unstable weather with periods of heavy rain across the Nürburgring area. Temperatures are also expected to remain below 10 degrees Celsius during the opening days of the event.

Even in dry conditions, temperatures are predicted to stay around eight to nine degrees Celsius. When rain arrives, temperatures are expected to drop further, with risks of intense showers, thunderstorms, and even hail across sections of the Nordschleife.

The most difficult weather conditions are currently expected on Thursday, with the strongest rain and wind arriving from western directions. Friday is predicted to become slightly more stable, although rain chances are still expected to remain significant throughout the day.

Night-time temperatures are also becoming a major concern for teams and drivers. Conditions overnight into Friday are forecast to drop close to freezing point, which is considered unusually cold even for the Nürburgring region during mid-May.

The Nürburgring 24 Hours race itself will begin on Saturday at 15:00 local time with conditions expected to improve slightly. While isolated showers cannot be ruled out during the opening hours, the probability of dry running is forecast to be much higher compared to the previous days.

However, temperatures will remain extremely cold with maximum values around nine degrees Celsius, far below the Nürburgring’s typical May average of approximately 17 degrees.

Conditions are expected to improve further on Saturday evening and overnight with clearer skies and significantly reduced rain activity. Nevertheless, the clearer weather will likely allow temperatures to fall close to freezing once again during the overnight portion of the race.

Sunday is currently forecast to offer the most stable conditions of the weekend, with dry weather and sunshine expected during the final hours of the event. Temperatures at the scheduled finish around 15:00 local time are expected to rise to approximately 12 degrees Celsius, although that still remains considerably colder than normal conditions for the circuit.

The extreme weather forecast is expected to play a major role in tyre strategy, night-time visibility, and GT3 reliability throughout the 24-hour race. Combined with the technical demands of the Nordschleife, the challenging conditions could make the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours one of the toughest editions of the endurance classic in recent years.
