Ahead of the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix, the final Formula 1 race at Zandvoort, drivers are united in sadness as the iconic circuit prepares to leave the calendar after six years.
Fernando Alonso and his peers acknowledge Zandvoort as one of the best tracks they've ever conquered. Despite its cramped, old-school nature, it offers a unique challenge found nowhere else. The Hugenholtzbocht with its wide outside line and the ultra-fast Scheivlak are favorites among drivers.
Zandvoort's presence on the F1 calendar was a product of Max Verstappen's immense popularity. Since 2021, the circuit has witnessed the Red Bull driver's dominance in front of his devoted fans. Sadly, after this season, the North Sea dunes venue must bid farewell.

The decision not to extend the contract with F1 stems from a lack of government support. Unlike other hosts, Zandvoort bears all financial risks. With F1's popularity seen as saturated in the Netherlands, organizers chose to quit while ahead.
Oscar Piastri, last year's winner, expressed sadness: "It will be a shame. As a circuit to drive on, it's one of the best we have all year. However, for racing, it might not be the most exciting, and logistically it's pretty small for F1."
Drivers hope historic tracks like Imola or Spa remain. If Zandvoort is replaced by another street circuit lacking challenge, they fear F1 will lose its character. This weekend marks the last time Zandvoort hosts a Grand Prix, leaving lasting memories for all who raced there.
