Ducati has brought back the glory of 1975 with the Panigale V2 S 100, a special edition that revives the livery of Franco Uncini's 750 Super Sport Desmo. The iconic yellow and burgundy instantly evoke nostalgia among Italian racing fans.
The story begins with Ducati's decision in late 1973 to entrust its official team to Bruno Spaggiari, a former racer with experience leading his own outfit. With factory backing, Spaggiari took Ducati to the Italian Championship for production-derived motorcycles. In 1975, Franco Uncini clinched the title on the 750 Super Sport Desmo, cementing its status as one of the most significant bikes in Ducati's history.
Half a century later, the Panigale V2 S 100 draws direct inspiration from that historic machine. The yellow hue, sourced from the road-going 750 Sport, and the maroon-burgundy shade once used for marine engines at the Borgo Panigale factory, now adorn the modern Panigale V2 S bodywork. The yellow swingarm is one of the strongest echoes of the 1975 bike, while burgundy accents complete a classic feel that remains cohesive with contemporary design.
Ducati hasn't stopped at visuals. This special edition boasts premium details that set it apart from the standard V2 S. The seat is upholstered in Alcantara with an embroidered Ducati 100 logo, a solid aluminum sport handlebar, and a steering damper. On the solid aluminum fork, there's a top clamp finished in Centenary Bronze displaying the model name and serial number, as well as on the machined aluminum fuel cap. These elements differentiate this Panigale from a regular V2 S while maintaining aesthetic coherence with the historic livery.
On the technical front, the most exciting feature is the return of a dry clutch on the new V2 family. It's the first time this feature appears in the V2 lineup, offering a rawer riding experience and that distinctive sound enthusiasts have longed for. The Panigale V2 S 100 is not just a limited-edition bike; it's a living tribute to the racing heritage that has shaped the brand's identity.
