Starting the MotoGP weekend in Indonesia with promising speed, Fabio Di Giannantonio secured seventh place in the first free practice and sixth in the official practice, finishing just four thousandths of a second slower than Ducati's spearhead, Marc Marquez. The leading rider of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team admitted that his opening day at the Mandalika Street Circuit went quite smoothly, noting that driving on the venue brings him joy and a good feeling from the very first meters.
“We are on a good path!” expressed the Italian rider, adding that he immediately had a strong connection with the machine upon hitting the asphalt in Lombok. This positive momentum comes after the team utilized the pre-event buildup to thoroughly analyze previous rounds, specifically identifying areas for improvement following a difficult weekend at Motegi where a promising sixth place on the starting grid ultimately translated into an 18th place finish in the main race.

Ahead of the Indonesian round, the VR46 stalwart and his crew worked intensively to troubleshoot data from recent grands prix. “We wanted to prepare ourselves as best as possible and studied the last races, especially the one in Motegi,” he explained. Despite several yellow flags appearing during the timed practice session, Di Giannantonio managed his run effectively, capitalizing on his speed and securing a direct entry into Q2 while matching the pace of the factory Ducati riders.

When questioned about whether he could potentially beat the world champion and emerge as the fastest Ducati rider of the weekend ahead of his upcoming switch to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing next season, the Italian rider firmly rejected status-chasing. For him, the primary objective transcends mere bragging rights within the Borgo Panigale stable, shifting instead toward regaining the supreme riding sensations he enjoyed prior to the summer break when he was still within striking distance of the championship summit.
“That is not my goal! I would rather regain the feeling that I had a few races ago. Whatever comes after that is the result of our work,” Di Giannantonio stated, emphasizing process over superficial accolades. Concluding his assessment of the weekend's opening phase, he underscored the importance of team synergy: “The results will come by themselves. We are doing a good job. That is what we have to focus on.”
