The lightweight class action at the Lusail International Circuit delivered pure tension as David Almansa produced a masterclass performance to claim a commanding victory in the 2026 Moto3 Qatar Grand Prix. Starting from the front row in second position, the Spanish rider executed a brilliant launch off the line, seizing the lead at the opening corner and instantly establishing a gap that his pursuers struggled to close throughout the early stages.
The battle for supremacy ignited immediately when the lights went out. Maximo Quiles, starting from pole position, failed to defend his lead through the opening metres as the chasing pack surged forward. Capitalizing on the shuffling positions, Adrian Fernandez and Brian Uriarte immediately inserted themselves into the podium fight. Drama struck early at Turn 1 when a heavy contact involving David Munoz took Uriarte out of contention and triggered a long lap penalty for Munoz.
Up front, Almansa remained completely unfazed by the chaos unfolding behind him. The young Spaniard steadily stretched his lead to nearly eight tenths of a second over the chasing pack, dictating a relentless race pace. However, Quiles mounted an impressive recovery drive, slashing the deficit down to just half a second as the race entered its crucial closing phase, setting up a thrilling duel for victory.

Despite mounting pressure from the chasing group, Almansa displayed superb tyre management and late-braking precision to fend off every attacking move. His ability to hit every apex cleanly neutralized Quiles' late charges, allowing Almansa to cruise across the finish line with a hard-earned victory.
The race concluded with a 100 percent Spanish lockout on the podium, as Fernandez secured second place following a brilliant tactical race, while Quiles completed the podium in third. The result sets a high benchmark for the remainder of the 2026 lightweight class campaign.
