Dan Ticktum delivered one of the biggest surprises of the Formula E season after securing a sensational pole position for the opening race of the Monaco E-Prix double-header. The Cupra Kiro driver defeated Nyck de Vries in the final duel by 0.131 seconds with an outstanding 1m26.551s lap.
The result carries major importance for Ticktum, who currently remains without a confirmed Formula E seat for next season. His Monaco pole position is widely viewed as one of the strongest performances of his Formula E career and could significantly improve his chances of remaining on the grid in the future.
From a technical perspective, Ticktum was particularly effective in maximising traction and energy efficiency through the opening and final sectors of the Circuit de Monaco. Despite brushing the wall slightly during the decisive lap, the British driver maintained strong momentum and car stability throughout the final duel.

Remarkably, it marks Ticktum’s second Formula E pole position but the first time he will actually start from P1. During his previous pole, a grid penalty prevented him from lining up at the front of the field.
Ticktum’s route to the final duel was equally impressive. He first eliminated championship leader Pascal Wehrlein in the quarter-finals before defeating Maximilian Gunther in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, de Vries reached the final after defeating Antonio Felix da Costa before overcoming Mitch Evans with a strong semi-final lap. Evans nevertheless maintained his recent momentum following victory in Berlin and will start from fourth on the grid.
The second row in Monaco will feature Gunther and Evans, while Wehrlein starts fifth. With only a narrow gap separating Wehrlein and Evans in the championship standings, Monaco could become a decisive event in the Formula E title fight.
The qualifying group stage took place under bright sunshine and rising track temperatures, although not every driver enjoyed the conditions. Zane Maloney was unable to participate after crashing during FP2, with his car not repaired in time for qualifying.
Meanwhile, title contender Edoardo Mortara suffered a mechanical issue on his Mahindra machine. The problem could not be repaired under parc fermé regulations, costing Mortara a crucial opportunity to score major points.
Wehrlein topped Group A with a 1m28.832s lap and advanced alongside Gunther, Nico Muller, and Ticktum. Group B was led by Evans ahead of de Vries, Da Costa, and Joel Eriksson.
Reigning Formula E world champion Oliver Rowland failed to progress into the duel stages and will start from the sixth row. The result further tightens the Formula E championship battle heading into the Monaco E-Prix race.
