Cal Crutchlow admitted he was 'super disappointed' after his home British Grand Prix ended in a double DNF. Contact on the opening lap of the Sprint made him more cautious in the main race, but he later crashed while chasing Toprak Razgatlioglu.

Making his first Silverstone appearance since 2021, Crutchlow had outqualified fellow stand-in Pol Espargaro and the Yamahas of Razgatlioglu and wildcard Augusto Fernandez. However, the Sprint incident left him lacking aggression at the start of the grand prix.

Crutchlow was trapped behind Espargaro before passing the KTM rider for 17th on lap six. But moments later, he lost the front under braking and crashed. “I'm not going to lie, I'm super disappointed. It wasn't the British Grand Prix that I hoped for, for me, for the team and for the people attending,” he said.

The LCR Honda rider explained he had been trying to save the rear tyre by using the front more, a decision that backfired. “I was trying to save the rear tyre and use the front more. But when I was behind other riders, that was maybe not the best decision,” he added.

Crutchlow also highlighted front tyre pressure issues, which he has now suffered three times this season. “The reason for the mistake was that for five laps before, I had someone in front as a reference and I was braking early. Then the first lap I braked in a normal place, the front wouldn't handle it,” he explained.

Despite the disappointment, Crutchlow chose to focus on the positives from the weekend, feeling he was competitive and the fastest he has ever been at Silverstone. “I go away with good memories of doing a good job up until the races,” he concluded.

Crutchlow is expected to make another stand-in appearance for LCR Honda at Aragon later this month, before Johann Zarco returns.
