Cal Crutchlow believes Honda's decision on who will partner Fabio Quartararo at the factory HRC team in 2027 is a "no-brainer." The British test rider insists that Diogo Moreira deserves the seat over David Alonso, despite both having Honda contracts.
Crutchlow, who was Moreira's teammate for six rounds, praised the Brazilian rookie's rapid development and believes he has the potential to become a MotoGP World Champion within three years.
More Than Just Talent
Crutchlow emphasized that Moreira possesses not only raw speed but also remarkable race intelligence. "Everybody knows good talent when you see it. But there's a difference between talent and a good head, and he's got both," he said at Aragon.
According to Crutchlow, Moreira has consistently outperformed other Honda riders in his debut season, a feat made even more impressive given the bike is still in development. He also praised Moreira's improving tire management and race pace consistency.
Marc Marquez-Style Braking Trick
Crutchlow also revealed that Moreira, who often trains with Marc Marquez, uses a braking technique similar to the nine-time champion. "He's very strong in the braking area, and what he does with the bike there is a little bit of a trick I don't want to give away," Crutchlow said with a smile.
Crutchlow admitted he once tried a similar technique and ended up crashing every time. "I tried to do it, and that was every time that I fell on my head for all those years!" he joked. However, Moreira executes it flawlessly, showcasing remarkable maturity for a rookie.
While Honda has yet to make an official announcement, Crutchlow noted that placing Alonso at LCR would also be a perfect scenario. He argued that in modern MotoGP, there is virtually no difference between factory and satellite teams, as every team operates with factory support.
