Formula 1, Sportrik Media - A defining 24-hour period lies ahead for Red Bull Racing, Racing Bulls, and the newly formed Red Bull Powertrains operation, as the organisation prepares for a major on-track milestone in its Formula 1 project.
In the early hours of last Friday morning, Red Bull and Racing Bulls unveiled their challengers for the upcoming season at Ford headquarters in Detroit. The event primarily showcased the liveries of the cars, with neither the RB22 nor the VCARB03 having turned a wheel on track at that stage.
That situation changes today, with the VCARB03 scheduled to make its first appearance on track. The run marks the competitive debut of the first power unit fully conceived and constructed by Red Bull Powertrains, following the strategic decision by Red Bull to chart an independent technical path after two decades as a customer team reliant on external manufacturers.
While extensive dyno testing has already been completed behind closed doors, the first on-track running represents a significant milestone for Racing Bulls, its drivers, and the Red Bull Powertrains department. Track mileage is viewed as the definitive validation phase for system integration, operational reliability, and overall readiness.
RacingNews365 can confirm that Liam Lawson and rookie team-mate Arvid Lindblad will carry out a limited demonstration run at Imola in the VCARB03, covering no more than 15 kilometres. The primary objective of the session is to complete system checks and confirm that all components are functioning as expected.
The programme escalates on Wednesday, when Lawson and Lindblad will return to the cockpit for a more extensive shakedown at Imola during a filming day. Under Formula 1 regulations, the car will be permitted to complete up to 200 kilometres, providing a broader opportunity to assess baseline performance and reliability.
Following these initial runs, the VCARB03 is scheduled to be back on track from Monday next week for a private five-day pre-season test at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The test will involve both Red Bull teams and will form a critical phase in data collection ahead of the competitive season.
For Red Bull Powertrains, the coming days carry particular symbolic and technical importance. It will be the first time a power unit developed entirely in-house by Red Bull is evaluated under real circuit conditions, representing a cornerstone moment in the group’s long-term pursuit of technical independence under the current regulatory framework.
With tight schedules and high expectations across the organisation, the next 24 hours are viewed internally as a decisive phase. A smooth execution of these initial steps will provide vital confidence and direction as the Red Bull family moves closer to the start of the Formula 1 season.
