Nicolo Bulega heads into the Superpole session at the 2026 Cremona WorldSBK with a 100 per cent pole position record to defend and the chance to clinch his first WorldSBK title this weekend. The Superpole session is scheduled to start at 11:15 local time, marking a crucial moment for the Ducati rider.
Bulega is on the brink of his second world title overall and his first in WorldSBK. However, the odds of him clinching it today in Race 1 are against him, as he needs to out-score Iker Lecuona by 15 points. Still, Bulega's focus remains on Superpole, where he has been flawless all season.
Yesterday, Bulega crashed twice, admitting it made him "angry". Meanwhile, Lecuona topped both practice sessions and confessed to feeling as good as he ever has on the Panigale V4 R, especially in FP2. Ducati once again dominated the field, locking out the top six in both sessions.
Elsewhere, Yari Montella also crashed twice, despite entering this weekend with a 46-point lead over Alex Lowes in the battle for third in the championship. Lowes himself suffered a setback after crashing shortly after the red flag in FP2, and didn't set a time in the afternoon session as a result. The red flag in FP2 was caused by Remy Gardner's crash at turn one; the Australian was declared fit after a trip to the medical centre.
BMW had a slightly more promising day with Miguel Oliveira finishing eighth in FP2, although Danilo Petrucci still struggled, finishing down in 19th. Shaun Muir, BMW's boss, revealed that Petrucci could stay with BMW next year in an "overseas" national championship.
With Superpole about to begin, the pressure is on Bulega to maintain his pole record and keep his momentum towards the title. Meanwhile, Lecuona aims to turn the tables and delay Bulega's celebration. Don't miss the action from the Cremona Circuit.
