Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse-Aprilia): Platz 1 im Zeittraining© Gold and Goose

The crucial MotoGP practice session at the Mandalika circuit in Indonesia was marked by high drama and multiple crashes among top-tier riders. The 60-minute session is vital for riders aiming to secure a direct spot in Q2 on Saturday, with only the ten fastest riders advancing automatically. The session had experienced a 35-minute delay due to technical network connection issues that left race control cut off from the track during the preceding Moto2 session.

Track conditions at Mandalika were extremely demanding, with air temperatures reaching 29 degrees Celsius and the asphalt soaring up to 59 degrees Celsius. Riders immediately pushed hard as the session started to chase competitive lap times on the hot tarmac. Marco Bezzecchi quickly showed strong pace early in the session, battling at the sharp end of the timesheets after previously topping the morning's first free practice session.

However, the practice session was heavily disrupted by crashes involving several competitors. Young rider Fermin Aldeguer suffered his second crash of the day when he slowly slid into the gravel trap at Turn 17. Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo suffered a high-speed crash after losing front-end grip in a left-hander, throwing him violently into the gravel before he managed to get back to his feet.

The battle at the top remained dynamic as the session crossed the halfway mark. Raul Fernandez repeatedly claimed the top spot on the timesheets, while factory stars such as reigning world champion Marc Marquez worked methodically to improve their lap times and secure a safe passage to Q2. Elsewhere, Jorge Martin was forced to pit after losing a piece of his rear aerodynamic fairing during a minor track incident.

As the final minutes ticked down, the intensity reached its peak with riders bolting on fresh rubber for their time attacks. The Noale manufacturer displayed formidable speed by placing three machines near the very top of the timesheets, underscoring their strong early dominance at the Indonesian Grand Prix weekend amid grueling track conditions.
