Colton Herta's racing program for 2027 remains undecided, but the Cadillac Formula 1 test driver is eager to return to both the Indianapolis 500 and IMSA endurance races if his schedule permits. The 26-year-old Californian is currently completing his rookie FIA Formula 2 campaign with Hitech.
With his primary career focus centered on securing the FIA Super License required for Formula 1, Herta's upcoming commitments will ultimately dictate whether he can rejoin the grid for America's premier motorsport spectacles. The transition between single-seaters and sports cars has been a major talking point in his career trajectory.
Having secured nine IndyCar victories and finishing as the 2024 championship runner-up, Herta faced a heartbreaking calendar clash earlier this year. A late schedule adjustment by the FIA forced him to miss out on what would have been his latest appearance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Reflecting on that missed opportunity, Herta made his intentions crystal clear for future seasons. "Yeah, I’ll never turn down the Indy 500," Herta told Motorsport.com. "I always want to do the Indy 500. It was a shame this year that I couldn't do it. You know, it was all set up."`
Beyond his open-wheel commitments, Herta has carved out a strong presence in sports car racing this season as part of Wayne Taylor Racing's endurance lineup. Whether he can continue balancing sports car appearances with his primary F1 development duties remains one of the key storylines to watch.
