The 2027 WorldSBK grid is taking shape with confirmation that Somkiat Chantra has extended his contract with Honda HRC. According to Crash.net, the Thai rider will remain onboard for another campaign, continuing alongside Jake Dixon as the manufacturer prepares for the upcoming dawn of the Michelin WorldSBK era.
Chantra's renewal follows a standout one-off MotoGP return at Motegi last weekend. Despite enduring a rookie Superbike campaign hampered by injuries and a previous best race finish of 13th, Chantra reminded the paddock of his raw speed by matching that result in Japan while impressively outqualifying full-time HRC premier class rider Luca Marini during the grand prix weekend.
"I am very happy to continue with Honda HRC in WorldSBK for another season," Somkiat Chantra stated. He reflected on the steep learning curve of transitioning to a new championship, a new machine, and unfamiliar circuits, noting his gradual progress in understanding the CBR1000RR-R SP and expressing gratitude for the unwavering trust and support from the factory squad.

HRC General Manager Taichi Honda echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Chantra's strong commitment and positive attitude throughout his debut year in the series. The management believes that maintaining rider continuity is a vital cornerstone for strengthening the overall WorldSBK project moving forward into the future.
On the other side of the garage, Dixon—who also made the switch from the grand prix paddock this year—recently delivered Honda's strongest result of the campaign with a sixth-place finish at Cremona. With the final two rounds remaining at Estoril and Jerez, the squad looks to finish the year strong.
