Carlos Sainz Issues Brutal Verdict on F1 Sepang Software Glitch
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Heavy rain in Sepang led to the bizarre software glitch

A deeply embarrassing technical failure hit Formula 1 during the formation lap as Carlos Sainz and his fellow drivers faced a baffling software glitch. Critics of the sport's complex new regulations found fresh ammunition after software parameters tied to the 50/50 hybrid power units suffered a bizarre malfunction on the grid.

With the kilowattage of the cars' batteries turned down by 100kW, a number of drivers abruptly lost power behind the Safety Car. This sluggish pace was severely compounded by treacherous wet weather conditions that tested the mechanical limits of the entire field.

Following the race, the FIA explained that the glitch was partly due to a lack of testing, as the pre-race downpour has been the only true sign of wet weather all season so far. This added to a chorus of complaints from drivers who have continuously questioned the ongoing regulatory cycle.

The Williams driver did not hold back when assessing the root cause of the chaos, pointing directly at the extreme complexity built into the current generation of power units and braking systems.

"I think everyone needs to have a hard look at themselves and see how we ended up in this situation," Sainz told media, including Motorsport Week. He stressed that switching power right away and managing an excessive amount of software controls has simply made the sport overly complicated for manufacturers and drivers alike.
