Carlos Ezpeleta has been officially appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MotoGP Group. The announcement signals a strengthened leadership structure as the championship pushes for broader global appeal.
New Role Under Liberty Media's Umbrella
The move comes at a critical time. Since Liberty Media took over, MotoGP has aimed for more aggressive commercial and sporting growth. Carlos, son of CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta, will now oversee daily operations more directly. With over a decade in the paddock, he has been involved in safety, competition, and expanding the fan base internationally.
For Liberty Media, Carlos is a strategic bridge. Derek Chang, CEO of Liberty Media, highlighted his experience and deep understanding of MotoGP as key to elevating the series. “He has a clear vision to transform this sport,” Chang said.

Meanwhile, Carmelo Ezpeleta remains as CEO. He sees his son's promotion as a natural step to ensure leadership continuity. “Carlos has played a fundamental role in MotoGP's growth,” the elder Ezpeleta stated. For him, it's not just succession but a refresh at the top.
A More Open Future for MotoGP
Carlos himself embraces his new duties with enthusiasm. He called this moment a great honor and a challenge to reach new audiences alongside Liberty Media and the MotoGP community. “We have a huge opportunity to maximize this sport's potential,” he said.
The appointment also signals MotoGP's seriousness about tapping into Asian and American markets. With a new management structure, the championship could become more adaptive to digital trends and sponsor needs. No further announcements on the management team have been made, but this could pave the way for more restructuring.
This decision inevitably impacts the competition's direction. With a focus on commercial growth, we might see calendar expansions or new formats. However, all remains speculative until policies are implemented.
