Young Australian racing driver Cam McLeod is gearing up for his second European GT4 appearance this weekend, running from October 17 to 19. This upcoming round marks his return to the British-based Academy Motorsport squad, the exact team he raced with at Monza back in May. As an official partner of Ford Racing and Multimatic, the team utilizes its entries to showcase Ford’s broader global talent pool on the international stage.
For this high-stakes season finale, McLeod will share the cockpit of the #61 Ford Mustang alongside American driver Erik Evans. Meanwhile, regular team driver Nathan Vanspringel transitions over to the sister #62 entry, where he will team up with GT4 America competitor Michael Tosi as the squad looks to maximize its performance during the final weekend of the championship.
This valuable call-up follows a standout series debut in Italy earlier in the year. During his outing at Monza, McLeod secured a pair of impressive top-10 finishes, which prominently featured a trip to the podium during the opening race. Ever since that breakthrough performance, the 21-year-old has kept busy by racing regularly in GT4 Australia for Multispares Racing, prior to moving over to Wallis Motorsport for the final two rounds of the domestic season.

These overseas appearances are a crucial stepping stone in the young driver's career trajectory. In recent weeks, McLeod has made several guest appearances overseas with Ford, most recently including the GT World Challenge America finale at Indianapolis from October 9 to 11. McLeod has openly stated that his ultimate career goal is to climb the sportscar ranks and eventually race as part of Ford’s Hypercar program in the future, following in the footsteps of fellow Aussie Matt Campbell.
The grid will feature two Australians in total, with Lachlan Evennett wrapping up his maiden season aboard the #4 Toyota Supra alongside Dutch driver Mees Houben. The pair currently sits seventh in the Silver class standings, 51 points adrift of the leading car. Fans in Australia can catch the live action via Fox Sports and Kayo, while international viewers can tune in through the official GT World YouTube channel as the season draws to a dramatic close.
