Cadillac Denies F1 Team Sale Rumors Amid Federal Probe TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Cadillac is at the centre of sale rumours

Cadillac has moved to quash speculation over the future of their Formula 1 team amid a federal investigation into TWG Global founder Mark Walter. The team's management issued a firm denial of any sale plans, seeking to stabilize the atmosphere around the outfit.

Although the team carries the name of automotive giant General Motors, the majority ownership lies with Cadillac's parent company, TWG Motorsport, a subsidiary of TWG Global. The rumors gained traction after Walter sold NBA franchise the Los Angeles Lakers for a record $12.5 billion, just a year after purchasing it for $10 billion. That sale prompted speculation that other assets, including the F1 team, could be on the block.

Speaking at the Dutch Grand Prix on Thursday, Adrian Atkinson, executive director of General Motors global motorsports communications, read an unprompted statement on behalf of TWG. “TWG is not considering a sale of the Cadillac team or any other part of TWG Motorsport,” he said. He also confirmed that Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsport, was absent due to attending the IndyCar race in Washington D.C. this weekend.

The speculation comes amid a leadership transition. Marcin Budkowski has returned to F1 to replace Graeme Lowdon as team principal. When asked whether he sought reassurances about the situation before signing, Budkowski replied, “There was absolutely no discussion about that. There is no doubt for me that—there's no influence there.”

“The new factory, my appointment; there's key personnel that, hopefully, we will be able to announce soon as well. I think it just shows the commitment and the investment behind the project,” he added, underscoring the team's focus on long-term growth.

The federal investigation into Walter centers on insurance companies he owns, not on motorsport activities. Nevertheless, the situation adds an intriguing layer for the new team as it builds its foundation in F1. With this official statement, TWG aims to quell paddock concerns and maintain focus on their competitive targets.

For Cadillac, their debut F1 season is under the spotlight, and clarity over ownership is crucial for maintaining team stability. TWG's swift response to the rumors demonstrates their seriousness about the F1 project, sending a strong signal to sponsors and fans that the team is not for sale anytime soon.
