Nicolo Bulega sealed the 2026 WorldSBK title with a second-place finish in Race 2 at Cremona on Sunday. The result was enough to clinch the championship, and an emotional Bulega was almost lost for words in parc ferme.
“I’m incredibly happy,” the 26-year-old Italian told the world feed broadcast, welling up as he mentioned his team. “I want to say thanks to my team because they gave me an incredible opportunity. Thanks to them.”
Bulega’s journey to the title has been remarkable. He joined Aruba.it Racing Ducati in 2022 to ride the Panigale V2 in World Supersport after a disastrous Moto2 career. Despite a winless 2022, he dominated the class in 2023 to take the title. Ducati’s faith in him was rewarded with a promotion to the factory WorldSBK team in 2024, and now he is world champion.
His teammate Iker Lecuona also praised Bulega. “Nicolo made a step in the Superpole Race, made a step now – I needed to push a lot at the beginning of the race,” Lecuona said. “But honestly very happy, it’s a superb victory for me. It’s the first time pole, almost perfect weekend. So, really happy, thanks to the team. Congrats to Nicolo because he deserved it, he did really well during the year. Let’s see if in the next races we can fight together.”
Bulega finished second in all three races at Cremona, statistically his worst weekend of the season. But he arrived at his home round knowing that finishing the races would realistically be enough to clinch the title, and he delivered with consistency and determination.
With this title, Bulega cements his status as one of the top riders in WorldSBK. His success is a testament to perseverance and team support. As the 2026 season continues, Bulega will now race as the reigning world champion.
Lecuona’s win in Race 2 added to the joy for the Aruba.it Racing Ducati team. The Spaniard took his first pole and first win of the season and hopes to keep challenging in the remaining rounds. “Let’s see if in the next races we can fight together,” he added. Bulega, with the title secured, will look to finish the season in style.
