Nicolo Bulega couldn't care less about how he'll celebrate the 2026 WorldSBK title. The Italian even shrugged off superhero costume suggestions: «They can dress me as Superman, Spidermang» he said with a smile. For him, the trophy matters, not the party.
First Chance at Cremona
This Saturday at Cremona, Bulega has a golden opportunity to seal the championship. He only needs to win and hope Lecuona finishes sixth or worse. Still, the 27-year-old admitted he'd prefer to clinch the title with a victory, though he wouldn't mind settling for second. «It's a strange weekend for me. Honestly, I'm not worried about the two crashes yesterday,» he said, referring to Friday's harmless incidents.
Responding to Pol Espargaro
Amid title preparations, Bulega also addressed Pol Espargaro's comments about his MotoGP 2027 testing advantage. According to the KTM test rider, Bulega will have an edge because he's already tried the 850cc bike and Pirelli tyres. «For me, there's nothing to discuss. We haven't broken any rules. I'm a Superbike rider, why can't I test a MotoGP bike?» he countered. He explained that the test rider role was planned since signing with Ducati, long before any MotoGP move was confirmed.
Support and Marc Marquez's View
His future Ducati teammate, Marc Marquez, weighed in. The eight-time world champion sees Bulega as one of the most interesting riders. «I enjoy hearing what the paddock says. But in MotoGP, the level is incredible. Now I know the bike and many things, but other riders will need a day or two to understand. I think in the first race we'll all be at the same level,» Marquez said. Bulega will also be the only Italian on the Borgo Panigale marque in 2027, alongside Fermin Aldeguer in the other side of the garage.
MotoGP Paddock Dynamics
Bulega is well aware of the cultural differences between the Superbike and MotoGP paddocks. MotoGP is more closed off and media scrutiny is far greater. He referenced the DAZN video showing a private conversation between Pecco Bagnaia and Diggia off-camera. «We know in MotoGP there's a lot more to do, there are things you can say and things you can't. When there's a camera, you have to be careful. If I want to tell my wife or my chief mechanic something and I don't want everyone to hear, I certainly won't do it in front of a camera,» he stated.
Focus on Track, Not Rumors
The two crashes Bulega suffered on Friday haven't dampened his spirits. He remains calm and aware of his limits. «I'm not thinking about anything outside the race. My focus is to perform at my best in Cremona,» he concluded. With second place at the end of Friday, he's one step away from the title. If everything goes to plan, Bulega can celebrate his second WorldSBK crown without worrying about a superhero costume.
