Formula E has officially confirmed Bridgestone as the sole tyre supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship starting from the 2026/27 season. This marks the Japanese manufacturer's return to FIA World Championship racing after a long hiatus. The news is certainly welcomed by fans of electric racing who crave technological innovation.
The multi-year agreement coincides with the debut of the Gen4 race car, which was unveiled alongside Bridgestone's bespoke tyre range in Rome. The Gen4 machine promises a significant performance leap over its predecessor. Bridgestone has prepared the Potenza Gen4 tyres to support these new capabilities.
An all-weather slick has been developed to withstand the increased torque and power demands on street circuits. Additionally, a heavy-wet specification dubbed the “Potenza Gen4 for Typhoon Tyre” is designed to handle severe rain conditions. This demonstrates Bridgestone's commitment to tackling the unpredictable weather often seen in Formula E races.

In line with the championship's sustainability mandate, the new Gen4 tyre range incorporates 65% recycled and renewable materials. This includes carbon black from tyre pyrolysis oil, rice husk silica, and GPSNR-compliant natural rubber. All are manufactured using 100% renewable energy and distributed via low-carbon logistics.
Beyond supplying the grid, Bridgestone will take on title sponsorship for four race weekends during the 2026/27 campaign. These include rounds in Mexico City, Berlin, Shanghai, and its home event, the season finale in Tokyo. This is a significant moment for Bridgestone to strengthen its global presence.
Bridgestone's return to the world stage is also intertwined with the dynamics in the Formula E paddock. Several teams are making major changes, such as Porsche, which is reportedly set to alter plans for its second factory squad. Meanwhile, Fortescue Zero has acquired the Penske team to launch its Gen4 entry.
With Bridgestone on board, competition in Formula E is predicted to intensify. Consistent and sustainable tyre supply will be a key factor in determining the champion. The 2026/27 season is eagerly anticipated as a new chapter in the evolution of electric racing.
