Pedro-Acosta has openly admitted that he and fellow MotoGP racer Marc-Marquez ended up looking like donkeys during Sunday's Indonesian Grand Prix after deliberately ceding positions to one another on track. The strange battle unfolded as Acosta made a slow start from ninth on the grid, while Marquez launched himself from the second row into early podium contention.
As the race progressed, the two riders found themselves fighting for fourth place with clean air ahead of them, before Acosta successfully made his move on lap seven of the 27-lap encounter. However, finding himself well behind Jorge Martin in third place and dealing with a front tyre pressure setup optimized for following traffic rather than running in clean air, Acosta quickly triggered a dashboard warning light.
The warning instructed him to spike his front tyre temperature and pressure, sparking a farcical cat-and-mouse game with his future 2027 teammate. After Acosta rolled off the throttle to let Marquez through on lap 13, the pair proceeded to swap positions multiple times with Acosta desperately trying to tuck in behind his rival.

This bizarre tactical stalemate allowed the chasing Ai-Ogura to hunt them down and overtake both riders, turning the grand prix into a spectacle resembling a cycling velodrome pursuit. Speaking to The-Race after the checkered flag, Acosta did not hold back his amusement regarding the peculiar on-track antics.
"I mean, we looked like donkeys," Acosta told The-Race afterward. "I think that he was having the same problems as me, because he let me past also, but I don’t know." Meanwhile, Marquez confirmed that his front tyre was functioning properly, offering no specific explanation for letting Acosta past other than acknowledging the KTM rider's superior pace at that moment.
The incident highlights ongoing controversies surrounding Michelin's stringent front tyre pressure regulations in MotoGP, where riders must adhere to strict minimum limits for a major portion of the race distance, an issue carrying massive championship implications.
