Bimota's plan to warm up before the second half of the WorldSBK season hit a snag. In a one-day test at the Navarra circuit, the Italian squad lost two hours of track time due to rain falling at midday.
The session was seen as an important warm-up after a long break. Alex Lowes had previously described the test as “not really a test” since it was only one day, but afterwards he felt it was still useful to get back on the bike after nearly two months off since Donington.
“It was good to get a few laps on the bike before we get to Magny-Cours for the next round,” said Lowes. “We had some drops of rain at midday, so we missed two hours of track time. But it was good to be back out with the guys in the team.”
He also noted progress compared to his last outing at Navarra with Kawasaki. “Improvements have been made at Navarra compared to the last time we were here, which is really good,” he added.
His team-mate, Axel Bassani, echoed a similar assessment. After six weeks without touching the WorldSBK bike, he was happy to work with the crew again. “The feeling with the bike was quite good, similar to the last time we used it,” said Bassani.
Bassani's crew chief, Oriol Pallares, added that the test was also useful for the whole crew to get back up to speed with track procedures ahead of the French Round. “We will go there with a positive feeling and good expectations,” he concluded.
