Bezzecchi Tops MotoGP San Marino Practice Ahead of Marquez Duo

Marco Bezzecchi once again asserted his authority in MotoGP practice, setting the fastest time in Friday practice for the San Marino Grand Prix. The Aprilia Racing rider clocked a 1m30.144s to edge out the Marquez brothers, Marc and Alex, by just over a tenth of a second. This marks the third consecutive race weekend where Bezzecchi has led the way on Friday, having also topped practice at Silverstone and Aragon.

The session was a tight battle between Aprilia and Ducati. Early on, Alex Marquez and Bezzecchi traded fastest times, with little separating the two manufacturers around the 4.2km circuit. Bezzecchi was the first to dip into the 1m31s with a 1m31.333s, before Alex Marquez responded with a lap in the 1m30s. About 25 minutes in, Aprilia fitted a fresh soft rear tyre to Bezzecchi's bike, and the Italian immediately set two rapid laps to reclaim the top spot, the fastest being a 1m30.829s.

As the session entered its final third, lap times continued to tumble. Fabio di Giannantonio, Luca Marini, and Pedro Acosta all took turns at the top. In the last 10 minutes, Bezzecchi briefly led again, only for Marc Marquez to demote him with a 1m30.247s. Alex Marquez then joined the fight, pipping Bezzecchi by just 0.002s to move up to second. But Bezzecchi had more in reserve, posting a 1m30.144s just as the clock hit zero to end the day fastest.

The Marquez brothers had to settle for second and third, with Marc ahead of Alex. Meanwhile, the VR46 duo of Fabio di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli completed the top five, less than a tenth adrift. The presence of team boss Valentino Rossi in the garage seemed to give the academy riders an extra boost.

Pedro Acosta, who crashed in FP1, recovered to set the sixth-fastest time on the KTM, 0.344s off Bezzecchi's pace. Luca Marini impressed on home turf, showing strong pace in FP1 before going seventh-quickest in the afternoon. Johann Zarco (LCR) was eighth, while Pol Espargaro surprised by finishing ninth as a substitute for Maverick Vinales at Tech3 KTM.

Aprilia's Jorge Martin hung on to 10th place, beating Tech3's Enea Bastianini by just 0.016s to secure a direct promotion into Q2. Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez, however, failed to make the top 10 and will have to go through Q1.

With this result, the battle for the San Marino GP is heating up. Qualifying will be crucial for grid positions. Will Bezzecchi continue his dominance, or will the Marquez brothers and other Ducati riders fight back? We'll find out at Misano.
