Marco Bezzecchi has admitted to a "slight setback" in his recovery from injury after the British Grand Prix, ahead of this weekend's Aragon MotoGP round. The Aprilia rider, who previously led the championship, fractured his collarbone in a crash during qualifying at the German Grand Prix in July, forcing him to sit out before the summer break.
The Italian returned to action at Silverstone two weeks ago, gritting his teeth to secure two third-place finishes for the Noale factory. However, heading into Aragon, Bezzecchi revealed he won't be 100% fit. "I can't wait to get to Aragon," he said. "It will definitely be a demanding weekend because, after Silverstone, I had a slight setback caused by the efforts of the weekend. Anyway, we expected that, so we are trying to take full advantage of the time we have available to get everything sorted."
Despite the setback, Bezzecchi remains excited about the circuit. "In any case, I'm extremely happy to be headed to Aragon: it's a track that I like a lot, and I can't wait to get on the bike," he added. This optimism is crucial as he now sits second in the standings, 31 points behind teammate Jorge Martin, who leads the championship.
Martin arrives in Aragon with strong momentum after an impressive performance at Silverstone, where a return to his earlier season set-up helped him secure pole, a sprint victory, and a podium in the main race. The Spaniard has yet to race at Aragon as an Aprilia rider and is eager to continue the team's upward trajectory. "We are arriving at one of our home GP races in great shape," said Martin. "I'm pleased with the work we are doing with the team. We worked extremely well at Silverstone, and I hope to continue on the same path."
"I am really looking forward to racing in front of the Spanish fans and returning to Aragon after missing this race last year. It will be great to ride my Aprilia at MotorLand for the first time. I like the track, and we'll be focused on doing the best job we can straight away from Friday in order to find a good feeling on Saturday and Sunday," he concluded. The pressure is now on Martin to maintain his lead, while Bezzecchi races against time to recover fully and keep his title hopes alive.
With Aragon known for its physically demanding layout, Bezzecchi's fitness will be under scrutiny. Can he still compete at the front despite not being fully fit, or will Martin extend his advantage? We'll find out on track.
