When the lights went out at Monza, Oliver Bearman briefly offered hope. His start was clean, and he gained positions one by one. But the bitter reality soon hit him: his car was simply too slow to compete at the 'Temple of Speed'.
For the seventh consecutive race, Haas finished outside the points. Bearman had to settle for 15th place, while his teammate Esteban Ocon was one place behind in 16th. This performance is in stark contrast to their promising start to the season, and the American team is now falling behind in the tight midfield battle.
“I had a good start, both times I gained some positions, but honestly, we weren't fast enough,” Bearman admitted, pointing out the main weakness of the VF-26. “It was clear from the early laps that I had to push much harder than the others just to match their pace, and in the end, the tires paid the price.”

The British driver also rued a missed opportunity during the Virtual Safety Car period. “I didn't manage to get into the VSC, while many drivers behind me did and overtook me. That's a shame; we could have finished a couple of positions higher. The fact is we were simply slow, and on a track like Monza, that really shows,” he explained.
Despite the disappointment, Bearman tried to find silver linings. “We saw an improvement with the upgrade package, although the balance wasn't ideal today. So we finished where we finished, but there are some positives to take away,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Ocon preferred to highlight the team's hard work amid the limitations. “I don't think we were fast enough, but I think we did a great job this weekend trying to maximize what we had,” said the Frenchman. “We tried everything to get the most out of the car and mitigate our issues. My first start was fantastic; we were in the points fighting with Lewis and the Audis. That was a positive.”
With Audi failing to break into the top ten (unless their appeal is successful), the points gap between the two teams now stands at just five. However, Haas's downward trend is a serious concern. If they don't find a solution soon, their once-realistic target of sixth in the constructors' championship will become increasingly difficult to achieve.
