The legendary Mount Panorama circuit in Australia is preparing for a potential new era as the local council officially opens the doors for racing promoters to submit expressions of interest for a major event package. This strategic move offers a lucrative five-year contract to any interested party capable of demonstrating strict commercial viability and undeniable economic benefits for the local region. This development unfolds after SRO Motorsports Australia previously secured an opportunity to host the Shannons SpeedSeries at the Mountain in 2027 as part of a stop-gap agreement. However, their long-term stay is far from guaranteed as the council welcomes rival promoters to step forward.
The rigorous selection process requires interested parties to submit comprehensive proposals detailing how their proposed event would operate, the exact time of year it would take place, a rock-solid commercial structure, and a clear path toward boosting Bathurst's economy. Bathurst Mayor Ben Fry emphasized the immense value of the historic motorsport venue. According to him, the council already hosts four established events that each bring a distinct flavor to the Mountain, meaning any fifth event must genuinely earn its right to share the calendar alongside them.
"Mount Panorama is one of the most valuable pieces of motorsport real estate in the country, and opportunities to activate it at this scale are deliberately limited," Ben Fry stated. He further noted that the council is not simply looking for another standard race meeting, but rather an experience equipped with a unique identity, a strong commercial proposition, a credible promoter, and the proven ability to drive fresh spectators and financial activity to the region. The ball is now firmly in the court of the motorsport industry to present its most innovative concepts.

Because the local community owns the extraordinary racing asset, guaranteeing a tangible economic and commercial return remains a non-negotiable priority for the council. Over generations, the circuit has birthed countless unforgettable moments in Australian motorsport history, and the ultimate challenge lies in finding an event capable of generating the next chapter of greatness. Meanwhile, SRO Motorsports Australia is widely anticipated to lodge its own formal expression of interest in order to extend their current arrangement beyond the initial temporary deal.
Promoters aiming to secure one of the five exclusive annual opportunities to race at the iconic venue must act quickly, as expressions of interest are scheduled to close on Tuesday, December 1 at 10:00 am. All submissions must be completed and processed through the official Bathurst Regional Council website before the strict deadline lapses to ensure fair evaluation by the committee.
