Australian motorsport royalty has written a stunning new chapter at Mount Panorama as the iconic Bates and Seton dynasties combined forces to secure a sensational pole position for the legendary endurance classic at Bathurst.
The remarkable achievement brings back fond memories of 26 years ago when family patriarch Neal Bates started the Great Race from the front of the grid. The current generation has now successfully etched their own names into the history books with a flawless qualifying performance.
"He always reminds me of that," said Zach Bates reflecting on his uncle's previous pole. "So now I’ll be able to go back to him with this. To have another Bates on pole is super cool."

Meanwhile, the Seton racing legacy reached another poignant milestone exactly three decades after third-generation racer Aaron Seton's father, Glenn Seton, last conquered Bathurst qualifying to start from pole position.
"My first car race was actually with Zach’s dad, so it’s funny that we’re now driving together," said Seton. "It’s a pretty special moment. I think I have my facts right and it’s been 30 years since Dad was on pole here."
With meticulous preparation completed through wildcard rounds earlier in the season, the team remains fully focused on the grueling task ahead. As the motorsport community looks toward race day, the historic grid position stands as a testament to decades of dedication from two legendary racing families.
