McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella has issued a stern warning following a controversial last-lap collision between his drivers during the Formula 1 Sprint race at the Marina Bay Circuit. Tensions boiled over as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri fought aggressively for position, ultimately ruining the Woking-based squad's valuable points-scoring opportunity in the Constructors' Championship.
The dramatic incident unfolded as both papaya cars closed in on Charles Leclerc for third place. Lando Norris spotted a gap down the inside at Turn 5 and lunged, but as Oscar Piastri turned into the apex, the two cars made contact, spinning them both into a disastrous double-jeopardy moment that immediately stunned the paddock.
Oscar Piastri was forced to retire on the spot with heavy damage, while Lando Norris managed a recovery drive to salvage eighth place. Instead of securing a combined nine points for the championship fight, the team walked away with a meager single point, leaving management furious over the squandered opportunity.

Speaking after the race, Lando Norris admitted the somber mood within the garage while offering a public apology. "As you probably expect, no one’s very happy. I’m not happy, Oscar isn’t happy, none of us wanted to go that way," he stated, acknowledging that both drivers could have handled the tight racing situation differently.
CEO Zak Brown and Andrea Stella were reportedly left fuming by the clash, which seemed to undermine the team's long-standing 'Papaya Rules' framework. Andrea Stella pulled no punches when addressing the media regarding the unacceptable loss of crucial points during a weekend where outright victory pace was out of reach.
"The Sprint race was a race that was giving us some good points in a moment in which we were not in condition to win," Andrea Stella explained. "Still, we were in condition to score good points, and we saw two McLarens having contact, basically, going out of the race. Lando could score one point, but definitely that’s not enough, and seeing two McLarens making contact like that is simply not acceptable."
Concluding his remarks, the Italian chief reiterated that individual ambitions must always take a back seat to the overarching mission of the organization. "We will do it in private. We will reiterate that the team interest is far bigger than any of us. There’s no ego, there’s no person that is bigger than the interest of the McLaren Formula 1 team. I’m sure, like always, these will be conversations that will lead to the team being more united and even stronger," he concluded.
