Formula 1 qualifying sessions continue to bring technical headaches for Lando Norris. The McLaren star once again found himself struggling with a lack of straightline speed, a recurring issue that first flared up in Baku and has now resurfaced to hamper his performance on track.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella stepped forward to clarify the situation surrounding the Mercedes power unit on Norris' car. Stella pointed out that the machine accelerates slightly less in power-limited sections, bleeding crucial momentum compared to other cars powered by the same manufacturer.
"We see that in the power-limited section, the car accelerates a little less and develops a little bit less top speed," Stella explained to the media. "It translates to a lap time loss that I would say is in excess of one tenth of a second, possibly between one and two tenths."

Pinpointing the exact root cause has proven exceptionally difficult under current regulations. Stella noted that unlike a straightforward deployment glitch which shows up clearly on telemetry, this issue likely stems from hidden mechanical parameters or external factors beyond the immediate reach of standard sensors.
In a tightly contested grid where qualifying margins are razor-thin, losing up to two tenths of a second purely on straights deals a heavy blow to race strategy. The Woking-based squad now faces a race against time to diagnose and resolve the mystery behind the recurring speed deficit.
