Andrea Iannone is set to return to the MotoGP paddock at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix in Mugello after being announced as a rider for the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup with Niti Racing. The appearance of the former MotoGP race winner is expected to become one of the headline stories of the new support category.

Iannone previously competed in MotoGP between 2013 and 2019 before receiving a racing ban following a doping case at the end of the 2019 season. After losing his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020, the suspension was extended to four years. The Italian returned to competition in WorldSBK in 2024 aboard Ducati machinery, securing a race win and multiple podium finishes across two seasons.

His return to the MotoGP environment at Mugello marks an important step in a new phase of his career. Iannone will make his Bagger World Cup debut without prior testing, a challenge he described as additional motivation. Technically, the Harley-Davidson machines used in the category differ significantly from MotoGP prototypes and modern superbikes, particularly in weight, power delivery, and braking dynamics.

“These bikes have a strong personality. You have to respect them, but at the same time you can push them hard.”

Iannone also highlighted Mugello as the ideal venue to begin this project due to his experience at the circuit and the support of Italian fans. He further emphasised the unique identity of the Harley-Davidson community compared to the traditional racing paddock atmosphere.

“I’m not coming just to participate. I want to understand the bike quickly and be competitive immediately.”

Iannone’s arrival is also viewed as a strategic boost for the visibility of the Bagger World Cup within the MotoGP ecosystem. Harley-Davidson global racing programs director Jeffre Schuessler described the signing as a major statement for the championship’s future growth.

At Mugello, Iannone will join a Niti Racing line-up featuring Oscar Gutierrez and Dimas Ekky Pratama. The addition of an experienced MotoGP race winner is expected to elevate attention towards the new support category as MotoGP continues expanding its entertainment platform.

Iannone’s return to the MotoGP paddock also demonstrates how a rider’s career can evolve beyond the traditional grand prix pathway. Mugello will now serve as an important benchmark for both his adaptation and the long-term appeal of the Bagger World Cup within international motorsport.
