Taylor Horton bounced back from a first-round exit to clinch the Junior Dragster win at the conclusion of the ANDRA Toyota Desert Nationals in Alice Springs on Sunday. The event marked round two of the 2026/2027 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series, delivering a weekend of intense drag racing at Inland Dragway.
Horton, the runner-up from last season, showed resilience by defeating Deklan McGregor, Izzy Woolcock, and top qualifier Ava Walker en route to the final, where he outlasted Cody Hunt in a thrilling showdown.
“It was good to get to the final after going out in the first round yesterday,” Horton said. “I knew the final was going to be tough as Cody had been on point all day, but I managed to drive around him and take the win.”
Meanwhile, Dean Jamieson was the star of the day, securing a double victory in Nitro Voodoo Modified Bike. After earning top qualifier honors, he dispatched Bryan Finn and Jason Rattray before defeating Greg Oberti in the final, underscoring his dominance in the class.
Joe Khoury also impressed in Nitro Voodoo Competition Bike, completing a perfect three-round Chicago Shootout run before defeating Cheryl ‘MsVrod’ Beddoes in the final. His path included wins over Leith Darrach, Corey Read, and Ken Colin, while defending champion Edge Mallis took top qualifier.
In Super Street, Neil Mellett added another strong result by defeating Michael Bridges in the final, having earlier beaten Shaun Boyer and Michael Jennings, who had eliminated top qualifier Jorja Stefanopoulos in round one. Super Sedan went to Michael Vlasakakis, who overcame Peter Furlanetto, with wins over Rick Pfitzner and top qualifier Steve Nusbajtel.
Gallagher Modified delivered more excitement as Matt Forbes defeated Josie Hodgins in the final, beating David Fendt and top qualifier Adriana Cartledge along the way. In Nitro Voodoo Junior Drag Bike, defending champion Cooper Plummer defeated Nevaeh McDougall, with Bailey Paul as top qualifier.
The non-championship Street Car bracket also saw action, with Michael Jury converting top qualifying honors into a win over Katrina Read. Earlier, after overnight track improvements, Top Sportsman completed qualifying, adding to the weekend’s packed schedule.
