Anderson secured his fourth win of the season in the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia at Sydney, strengthening his championship lead ahead of the finale at Sandown. But the spotlight also fell on debutant Patrick Trappett, who finished third in his first-ever race at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Oli Wickham, who started from pole, had to settle for second after leading the opening half of the race. Wickham, who earned $4000 from pole, put up a fierce fight against Anderson before eventually yielding.

Anderson and Wickham engaged in a tight battle in the early corners. Wickham led out of Turn 2, but Anderson stayed close. Past half distance, Anderson caught Wickham and took the lead around the outside of the tricky Turn 3, building a steady margin thereafter.

Behind them, Patrick Trappett, also a Hyundai Excel racer, impressed. He passed Jack Perkins after a short battle, and shortly after Perkins slowed with a mechanical issue and pitted. Trappett secured third place, a remarkable achievement on debut.

Joe Fawcett, who was running in the top three, suffered a gearbox issue in the closing laps. He lost third gear and was forced to yield to Trappett at Turn 8 on the penultimate lap. Fawcett nearly reclaimed the spot after Trappett ran wide at the final complex, but Trappett held on. The pair crossed the line side-by-side, with Fawcett just 0.1s behind.

Anderson also had a scare when a side skirt came loose in the final 10 minutes. He was under scrutiny but no penalty was issued. Meanwhile, Brock Stinson of Toyota GR Cup did not start due to illness, despite qualifying third.

With this result, Anderson is in a strong position atop the standings heading into the final round at Sandown on October 30-November 1. Fawcett remains the closest challenger, but the points gap favors Anderson. The Sydney race also showcased young talents like Trappett and Wickham, who are ready to make their mark in the remaining season.
