Alpine has officially appointed Mike Elliott as its new Chief Technical Officer (CTO) for its Formula 1 team. The 52-year-old Briton returns to Enstone, where he previously served as principal aerodynamicist during the Renault and Lotus eras.
Elliott is no stranger to success in F1. After leaving Enstone, he joined Mercedes as head of aerodynamics, playing a key role in the team's dominance under the 2014 V6 turbo-hybrid regulations. He later rose to technical director and chief technical officer, swapping positions with James Allison, before departing Brackley in 2023.
This appointment is a strategic move by Alpine to bolster its technical structure. In an official statement, the team highlighted Elliott's proven track record, contributing to eight constructors' and eight drivers' championships. His arrival is expected to help the team close the gap to the top four teams.

The CTO role is a newly created position specifically for Elliott. He will oversee all technical and engineering functions at the Enstone factory. Current executive technical director David Sanchez is understood to report to Elliott, indicating Alpine's desire to unify its technical departments under one experienced leader.
Alpine is in the midst of a resurgence. After sacrificing last year to focus on the 2026 regulations, they have started the season strongly and are currently fighting Racing Bulls for fifth in the constructors' championship. The 2026 campaign is also Alpine's first as a Mercedes customer team, adding a new dynamic to their competitiveness.
With Elliott's wealth of experience from a championship-winning team, Alpine hopes to accelerate car development and race strategy. His return to Enstone adds a compelling narrative, as he was once part of the team in its previous guises. Now, he's back with a mission to elevate Alpine to the next level.
This move aligns with Alpine's long-term ambition to return to the front of the F1 grid. If successful, Elliott's appointment could be the catalyst for the French team's revival. All eyes will be on the track to see the impact.
