Alonso Lopez is back on pole for the first time in three years, setting a new lap record at the MotorLand circuit during Moto2 qualifying at the Aragon Grand Prix. The Italjet Gresini rider posted a 1'49.405s lap on home soil.
Lopez's path to pole wasn't smooth; he was frustrated by slower riders on track, including Barry Baltus and Daniel Munoz. But a clean final run secured his first pole since the 2023 Dutch GP, making him the tenth different polesitter of the season.
Behind him, Izan Guevara of Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha took second, just 0.179s off, earning a fourth consecutive front-row start. Daniel Holgado completed the front row after a huge crash in FP2; despite the drama, he timed his final run perfectly to snatch third.
Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez charged to fourth on his last lap, while David Alonso, who came through Q1, took fifth. Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Barry Baltus (Fantic) rounded out the top six.
Angel Piqueras was the best rookie in eighth, Alex Escrig impressed again with Klint Forward Racing in ninth, and Filip Salac, winner at Silverstone, completed a turnaround to qualify tenth after Q1.
Qualifying saw two crashes: Taiyo Furusato at Turn 7 and Ayumu Sasaki's late incident that ruined Ivan Ortola's lap, leaving the Friday pace-setter 15th. With such a competitive grid, Sunday's race promises intense battles.
