The Paris Motor Show 2026 served as the stage where Alfa Romeo redefined interior automotive philosophy through its latest concept vehicle. While the broader market continues to chase larger digital displays, the Italian manufacturer has chosen a radically minimalist path to combat the ongoing size war inside the cabin.
This design direction was spearheaded by chief designer Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, who criticized how massive digital panels currently dictate the entire architecture of modern dashboard layouts. The brand aims to strip away unnecessary digital clutter to restore a purist driving experience focused purely on the road ahead.
Explaining the core vision behind the project, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos shared his perspective on current interior trends. “Liberiamoci degli schermi. Eravamo alla ricerca del vuoto. Gli schermi sono piacevoli quando si e seduti nell’auto, ma quando si e alla guida? Non ne sono convinto. Siamo coinvolti in una sorta di ‘guerra dei centimetri’ per quanto riguarda i display. E per me non ha alcun senso, dato che finiscono per diventare enormi. In pratica, e come se fossero loro a progettare la plancia per te,” he stated.
The design team believes that massive touchscreens will inevitably age poorly and transform into costly, obsolete components within a few years. Instead, the layout relies on a driver-focused, simplified instrument cluster that displays only essential driving data without relying on a traditional central touchscreen interface.
Addressing potential buyers who prefer traditional high-tech cabins, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos delivered a clear message. “Sono consapevole che gran parte del pubblico desideri schermi di grandi dimensioni. Beh, in quel caso non comprate un’Alfa ma scegliete qualcos’altro. Sono certo che la fuori ci siano molte persone che la pensano come noi. Molti saranno soddisfatti di questa esperienza,” he concluded.
