Alex Rins Frustrated as Yamaha V4 Upgrades Wait

Alex Rins has admitted his frustration with the performance of the Yamaha V4 after recording his first grand prix top-10 finish on the motorcycle at the 2026 Dutch MotoGP. Rins crossed the line in tenth before a tyre-pressure penalty for a rival promoted him to ninth.

The Spaniard finished 1.3 seconds behind team-mate Fabio Quartararo after spending the closing phase of the race behind Brad Binder. Rins felt he had stronger pace at one point, but the speed advantage of the KTM prevented him from reaching a realistic position to attempt an overtake.

“At a certain point, I had something more than Binder, but his bike was super fast. So, I couldn’t even try the overtake,” Rins said.

Rins was briefly able to follow the leading group during the opening phase before the gap increased when the riders ahead raised their pace. He said the problems experienced at Assen were fundamentally the same as those encountered during previous rounds, meaning the ninth-place result did not conceal the motorcycle’s performance limitations.

Asked when upgrades intended to improve the V4 would arrive, Rins said Yamaha had only indicated that new components would be available before the end of the year. However, he did not know the exact timing or which rider would receive the package.

“They say before the end of the year. When, and for who, I don’t know. For sure, it’s a bit frustrating to race like this. And I hope and I believe that they realise this,” Rins said.

Rins stressed that Yamaha’s technical staff were working at their maximum, but called for an additional push to accelerate development. The uncertainty surrounding the distribution of upgrades is increasingly relevant because he has been confirmed to leave Yamaha at the end of the season while the manufacturer continues to strengthen the V4’s technical foundation ahead of its revised 2027 rider line-up.

Further behind, Jack Miller finished 12th for Pramac Yamaha, while Toprak Razgatlioglu retired with chatter problems. The Assen result again underlined Yamaha’s need to improve its speed and attacking potential before the next V4 package is introduced during the final phase of the season.
