Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer will leave Gresini Racing at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season. Their departures clear the way for an entirely new line-up featuring Joan Mir and Dani Holgado when the 850cc regulation era begins in 2027.
Team owner Nadia Padovani stressed that Marquez and Aldeguer had contributed significantly through both their sporting results and their relationships with the wider Gresini organisation. The team offered its gratitude and support as both riders prepare for the next stage of their careers.
“At the end of the season we will say goodbye to Alex and Fermin, two riders who have given a lot to our team, both in terms of results and human relationship,” Padovani said.

Alex Marquez joined Gresini in 2023 following two difficult seasons with LCR Honda. The change of environment immediately improved his performance, producing two podiums, one pole position and ninth in the standings before he climbed to eighth the following year despite riding the challenging GP23.
His strongest Gresini campaign came in 2025, when he recorded three victories, 12 podiums and finished runner-up in the world championship behind Marc Marquez. Those results earned him the latest GP26 machinery for 2026, which he used to deliver Ducati’s first grand prix victory of the season at Jerez before a major Catalunya accident interrupted his campaign.
Marquez is expected to regain factory-rider status with KTM in 2027. The move would represent his first factory-team opportunity since his rookie campaign with Repsol Honda in 2020.
Aldeguer replaced Marc Marquez as Alex’s team-mate in 2025 and quickly demonstrated his potential. He claimed his first MotoGP podium at only his sixth event in Le Mans, finished second in Austria and then secured a maiden victory in Indonesia before ending the season eighth in the championship.
A fractured femur sustained during winter training severely disrupted Aldeguer’s preparations for 2026, forcing him to miss pre-season testing and the opening round in Thailand. He nevertheless returned to the podium in Catalunya while still visibly limping, before suffering another injury during practice at Assen.
Aldeguer, who is contracted directly to Ducati, will be placed at VR46 Racing Team next season. The changes close an important cycle for Gresini after both Marquez and Aldeguer delivered victories and reinforced the team’s reputation for developing riders and reviving careers.
