Alex Dunne heads into the second half of the 2026 F2 season with high confidence. The Irishman has shown far better consistency compared to his rookie year, although a win remains an elusive target.
Last season, Dunne was a standout as a McLaren junior and title contender, but errors in the latter part dropped him to fifth in the standings. Now with Rodin Motorsport and Alpine backing, he is determined to improve.
Speaking to Formula 2, Dunne expressed satisfaction with his progress. "In general, it's not been too bad. We've been relatively consistent. Qualifying has been a strong point, always in the top three since Miami," he said.
However, he admits there is room to grow, especially in race pace. "Race pace needs a bit of improvement, but we're getting there," he added.
Dunne also praised his team's efforts in preparing a car that is always in the optimal window. "They do a very good job. The car is always where we want it to be," he explained.
Consistency is key in unpredictable F2. Dunne has collected five podiums and only failed to score once, in Hungary. He has learned from last year not to take excessive risks for the lead.
"If the start doesn't go to plan or something happens mid-race, we still try to finish as high as possible. Sometimes second is better than crashing out," he concluded. With this mindset, Dunne is optimistic about returning to winning ways.
