Albon's Red Bull Joke Steals the Show in F1's Grill The Grid

The return of Grill The Grid for its 10th anniversary in 2026 brought unexpected moments. In the special challenge, F1 drivers were tasked with identifying their rivals based on career progression charts. However, it was Alex Albon's self-deprecating joke about Red Bull's driver programme that stole the spotlight and left fans in stitches.

When the chart displayed Toro Rosso followed by Red Bull, Albon, now driving for Williams, quipped, "There's no driver that's had this. Everyone's been fired at this point," pointing at the Milton Keynes team's logo. The remark immediately drew reactions from fans in the YouTube comments. "Alex got PTSD: Post Traumatic SackedbyRedBull Disorder," one fan wrote, while another added, "ALEX SAYING THEY GET FIRED AT THAT POINT AHAH."

The joke felt personal for Albon, who partnered Max Verstappen at Red Bull before being replaced by Sergio Perez in 2021. It seemed to confirm that the second Red Bull seat is a 'hell' for many drivers. Albon wasn't alone in struggling to identify the chart as Verstappen's career path; several others also appeared confused, including the champion himself. "2nd Red Bull seat traumatised drivers so much that they forgot who was in the 1st seat," a fan commented on YouTube. Another added, "All of them blanking on Verstappen is crazy."

Amid the chaos, Charles Leclerc stood out with his enthusiasm. The Ferrari driver called out the full names of every driver, which amused fans. "It's so funny how Charles says their complete legal name with an excited voice," someone wrote. "Everyone: Lewis. Leclerc: LEWIS HAMILTON," another commented. This moment contrasted with the confusion experienced by other drivers.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton also drew attention after incorrectly identifying Liam Lawson as Isack Hadjar's current team-mate. "Lewis so unc he thinks Hadjar's team-mate is Lawson," a fan commented. The mistake added to the list of funny moments in the episode.

At the end of the challenge, George Russell and Oscar Piastri topped the standings with 22 points each. Max Verstappen and Alex Albon followed with 21 and 20 points, respectively. The results show that despite the laughter, the competition remained fierce. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the next episode of this always-entertaining challenge.
