Bad news for MotoGP title contender Ai Ogura. The Japanese rider is confirmed to miss the San Marino GP this weekend at Misano, following a medical check-up in Barcelona that did not clear him to race.
Ogura sustained an injury while training during the summer break. That injury forced him to sit out the Aragon GP last week, and now he will also miss Misano. This is a major blow for the Trackhouse Racing rider, who was in impressive form earlier and even held second place in the championship standings.
In a team statement, doctors advised Ogura not to push himself. The injury to his left finger is not fully healed. “After the examination in Barcelona, it was confirmed that his left finger is not strong enough to ride,” the statement said. Ogura will stay in Barcelona to continue recovery, aiming to return for next week's Austrian GP.
A Setback in the Title Fight
Missing two consecutive rounds clearly hurts Ogura's title ambitions. He failed to score at Silverstone, and now two more races slip away. As a result, he has dropped to fifth in the standings, losing vital points in a tight championship race.
Ogura only realized the fracture after returning to Europe for Aragon. He underwent surgery to insert a plate to speed up healing, but recovery time wasn't enough for Misano. The team has no replacement planned, leaving Raul Fernandez as the sole rider for the team this weekend.
This decision prioritizes Ogura's long-term health. Despite the disappointment, he is focused on recovery and hopes to be competitive again in Austria. Losing Ogura is a big setback for the title fight, but there's still a long season ahead for him to bounce back.
