Ai Ogura has admitted he faces an experience deficit at the MotorLand Aragon circuit. The Japanese rider has never raced there on a MotoGP machine, having missed last year's event with a broken leg. Now, ahead of the 2026 round this weekend, Ogura must adapt quickly from the very start.
His mistake at Silverstone last season cost him valuable championship points, but the injury he sustained had more serious consequences. The broken leg forced him to skip the Aragon round, leaving him with zero reference points at the demanding Spanish track, known for its fast corners and elevation changes.
“I can't do so much about these experience issues. I can't go back in time, so it will be my first time in Aragon with the MotoGP bike. Let's see how we can start on Friday,” Ogura told media. He also highlighted the final corner as the section he is most looking forward to, calling the big left-hander after the long straight “fun”.
Despite the lack of experience, Ogura arrives with strong momentum. He currently sits third in the championship standings, 37 points behind Jorge Martin, with Marco Bezzecchi in between. Earlier in the season, he lost points due to a technical issue at COTA, but consistent performances have kept him in contention.
Interestingly, Ogura's home round at Motegi is just over a month away. He is determined to perform strongly in the European rounds to build momentum heading into the race in front of his home fans. “I just want to race and ride good in all the European rounds and go to Japan and perform well in front of the fans,” he said.
“Surely, it will be good if I ride really strong in Europe and then go to Motegi. I just want to do my thing,” the Aprilia rider added.
