Acosta: Marc Marquez is Key, Bezzecchi Today's Surprise

Pedro Acosta ended Friday at MotorLand Aragon in eighth place, enough to secure a direct ticket to Q2. But behind that respectable result for KTM's current standards, the young Spaniard doesn't hide the harsh reality facing the Austrian factory.

Amid Ducati and Aprilia's dominance on track, Pedro Acosta emerged as the only KTM rider inside the top ten. Yet he honestly admits his one-lap pace won't be enough to fight over a full race distance.

“No, we're still too lost. Too far behind, look where the others are. We thought this GP would be easier, but as I said yesterday, we had to see who woke up this weekend. Ducati came with five bikes in the top 10, Aprilia with three, then there's my KTM and Zarco's Honda,” he told media, including Motosan.es.

The KTM RC16's condition is far from ideal. “It's going to be tough, especially if we don't solve the front-end issues. That's our only card to play. Here we're struggling with the medium tyre, while last year I used a harder one,” explained Acosta.

Still, Acosta's expectations for the weekend remain realistic. “We dream of a second-row start. If we can secure fifth on the grid and fight for the top five in the sprint and the main race, that would be more than a victory for us,” he said.

Interestingly, Acosta believes this track should suit Marc Marquez. However, he highlighted Marquez's reported fatigue at Silverstone. “It all depends on how much energy Marc has today. We'll see how he is on Sunday, whether he saves energy in the sprint to go all out in the main race. But for me, the surprise today was Bezzecchi,” he concluded.

With only one KTM up front, pressure now mounts on the factory team to find solutions quickly. This weekend's results will be a key indicator of whether KTM can bounce back or sink further in MotoGP's competitive landscape.
