The international rallying scene is gearing up for an intriguing new era. According to DirtFish, the FIA has confirmed that WRC Rally1 cars will receive a power boost next season to widen the performance gap from the increasingly competitive Rally2 category.
This regulatory adjustment involves upgrading the air restrictor from 32mm to 33mm. FIA technical director Xavier Mestelan Pinon explained that the plan is to slightly increase power without implementing massive structural changes to the powerplants.
The change is expected to deliver around three percent more airflow, yielding roughly 12 extra horsepower. This pushes Rally1 machines north of 300hp, while Rally2 contenders will remain capped at 290hp to maintain overall class stability.

Alongside the powertrain tweak, teams converting Rally2 machinery to Rally1 specifications will benefit from a 10kg reduction in minimum weight. This ensures a clearer performance hierarchy across both gravel and asphalt stages worldwide.
These adjustments form a crucial part of the validation package heading to the World Motor Sport Council. Engineers and teams like Toyota welcome the shift to definitively separate the sport's top-tier machinery from the secondary class.
