The crucial final practice session of the 2026 Australian MotoGP weekend at the legendary Phillip Island circuit took a dramatic turn after heavy rain soaked the track on Saturday morning. As forecast by meteorologists, the wet conditions completely upended the competitive landscape following a completely dry and sunny Friday of action.
Amidst a slippery track that only slowly began to dry out as the morning progressed, Marc Marquez put on a masterclass display of wet-weather riding. The factory Ducati star dominated the timing sheets to set the benchmark lap time of 1'37.112s, comfortably outpacing his closest pursuers in testing conditions.
Behind the pace-setter, intense battles unfolded for the remaining top positions as Pedro Acosta carved his way to second quickest for Red Bull KTM, finishing 0.823s adrift. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured third place overall for Aprilia Racing, slotting in 1.018s shy of the leading benchmark.

This final practice hour served as the immediate prelude to the fiercely contested Qualifying 1 session. Riders who missed out on an automatic top-ten placement during Friday's running, including seasoned race winner Johann Zarco and local fan favorite Jack Miller, were forced into a high-stakes fight for promotion.
The current weekend at Phillip Island carries immense historic weight for the championship as MotoGP visits the iconic seaside venue for potentially the final time. The historic circuit, which has hosted the Australian Grand Prix almost uninterrupted since 1989, is slated to hand over the event hosting rights to a new Adelaide street circuit starting in 2027.
